Simple Tips For Better Every Day Mental Health



It seems there are more designated special days than there are days in the year. Some that really don’t require our attention (national doughnut day) and some that do (world mental health day). Mental health awareness applies to us all, whether or not we have a diagnosable condition. Because we are all impacted by life, and some days are better than others. This means stress, interpersonal conflict, sadness, anxiety, frustration….pick your adjective. These are all things that impact our mental health. And our ability to manage our day to day stressors and problems does impact our health, even if not leading to a diagnosable condition. Although, it might for some, since we know that many people have a genetic predisposition to mental illness that only appears once external stressors are applied. It goes without saying that if we, or someone we know, are struggling with depression, PTSD, suicidal thoughts, addiction or another severe condition, find professional help immediately.



While it is imperative that while we help those who are struggling with severe mental health problems, we all need to mind our own health. We all experience stress and anxiety, and can all be helped by using simple tools. And the tools really are simple.

  • Take breaks to disengage from demanding activities
  • Minimize “white noise”
  • Focus on the present
  • Engage with friends and family
  • Tell jokes
  • Meditate

… really the list is endless. Chances are, we have things that are unique to us that nobody else would do. Taking a long drive with the radio cranked up, sure! Gardening, if that’s your thing (and it’s not snowing). Woodworking, why not! Whatever works is what we need to do. And if we can do this for ourselves, we can help those around us to do the same. Everyone’s life has been made better when each of us models good mental health practices.



Engaging in these simple things can help everyone to achieve better mental health, every day.
