Hurricane Dorian Update: Sept. 2, 2019 - 9 AM EDT
September 2, 2019
R3 Continuum is responding.
Dorian is a sustained Category 5 storm and forward movement has stalled.
Expect storm surges up to 7 feet as the storm approaches on Tues. and Wed.
Hurricane Dorian is only moving at 1 mph, increasing the potential for significant destruction in the Bahamas. The slow movement will allow the storm to remain a powerful hurricane through at least Thursday. At least one million people have been ordered to evacuate two US states.
Based on R3c’s experience from 1000’s of natural disaster responses, organizations should continue to closely monitor the progress of the storm and prepare to enhance recovery.
- First responders becoming a focal point. Unfair distrust of response organizations occurring during any search and rescue operations. Many will work long hrs. with a reduction in morale. This includes police, fire, utilities, hospitals and those responders that have traveled into the area.
- Uncertainty will grow about living arrangements, work, school and other important factors causing stress to increase.
- Some indirectly affected by the crisis through media exposure personalizing the event and seeing themselves as potential victims.
- Questions to organizational leadership on next steps. Maintaining trust is important and can be enhanced with consultation. /our-services/crisis-response/leadership-consultation/
Our Crisis Management and Response Center Teams will continue to bring more resources into the area in coordination with clients and authorities. Please return to R3 Active Front Lines for analysis and response updates.
