R3 Continuum is responding in Florida.

Dorian intensified into a Category 4 storm and is now expected to follow the coastline.

Expect 7 to 10 in. of rain on the coast – landfall possible in the Carolinas – Thurs. Sept 5.

Dorian strengthened to a Cat 4 storm with 145 mph winds. It is likely to strengthen again today. Florida may be spared a direct hit as the path shifted several times on Friday, but forecasting is still somewhat problematic. It is advisable to continue monitoring for more changes to the path.

Strong winds and storm surge are still possible along the Florida coast and are an increasing threat along the coasts of Georgia and South Carolina.

The storm is slow moving and the speed will now be a major factor in the amount of potential damage.  The slower the movement, the more wind, storm surge and rain will be encountered. Almost 17 million people are now in the tropical storm strength impact zone.

Anticipate:

  • A slow moving, long event with many trees down and significant power outages.
  • King Tides, or especially high tides, combining with the storm surge and impact coastal areas.
  • Evacuations for those on barrier islands and in low-lying areas.
  • Media reports increasing, highlighting fear and anxiety. Over the last few days, the number of articles increased 35% each day to over 1500 on 8/30/19.

Our Crisis Management and Response Center Teams will continue to bring more resources into the area in coordination with clients and authorities. Please return to R3 Active Front Lines for analysis and response updates.
